Even as tourists flock to Boracay year after year and the tourism business continues to boom, environmentalists are also actively working to preserve the island’s natural resources.

Over recent years, the Philippines’ Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), as well as local and foreign environmental agencies, have raised concern over Boracay’s water pollution, waste disposal and sewage systems, scarcity of electric power, and littering along the beach.

SUR supports the thrust towards responsible green tourism, with:

• The use of organic household cleaning fluids and laundry detergents.
• The use of solar water heaters to save on electric power.
• Solid waste segregation to enable recycling of biodegradable material.
• A proper sewage system
• Regular cleaning of Sur’s beachfront.
